Grab a cup of coffee and come on in friends!
I thought it’d be fun to break up our current home tour into rooms that have some dramatic before/afters and that are complete…well as complete as any room ever gets!
So let’s start with the first room to get a fancy makeover when we moved in circa 2015 – our family room. Now this room is used the most BY FAR from the whole family and ironically it stays the most picked up! That is still a mystery to me…
Here’s how the room looked on move-in day.
She was burgundy and bland but with so much potential! I mean look at all that natural light pouring in! Since we moved from a 1300 square foot house to this seemingly massive amount of square feet our furniture was in short supply. Our current set went into the basement and we were on the hunt for all new furniture to fill this room (hence the blue painters tape). Oh, and the hubs wanted a television above the mantle so that’s taped out too. Unfortunately this is the only before picture I have of the space because of course that was pre-blogging. Bummer huh? But you get the idea I hope!
Ready for the glorious afters? Of course you are! Don’t worry we’ll chat along the way about the details.
So this is the view standing from our kitchen. It’s my happy place, truly.
We chose a large ‘L’ shaped sectional with a cuddle corner as we affectionally call it. It’s obnoxiously big but it fills the space and we love to lounge around on it and watch movies.
The mantle is always changing with the seasons and I love that it gives the space a fresh look without a big investment. I’m constantly changing the pillows around too. Filling a couch that size with pillows is no easy feat! Too many and it looks cluttered and not enough and it looks empty. I haven’t perfected that balance yet but when I do I’ll let you know haha.
One of my favorite corners of this room. In all honesty I very rarely sit here but I just love to look at it! Such a fun little vignette.
I’m currently in the market for a big plant to fill in that corner but being the black thumb that I am I kill everything. Womp Womp. Any suggestions I’d love to hear! I’d love a great big fiddle leaf fig tree there but we know how that went before. I also want to replace the coffee table eventually with a large square tufted ottoman…maybe even in a soft leather.
We are going to spruce up the tile around the fireplace – and by spruce I mean replace of course. It’s a great place to add big impact with low cost since the square footage is so small. I’ve got my eye on a few cement tiles…
I feel strongly our homes should reflect who we are and tell our story. I have pictures of family members, my cats, and people and places that make me happy sprinkled throughout our home.
So there you have it friends! I wish you could all curl up on this big ‘ol couch with me and sip on some coffee – it’s one of my favorite places to be.

Thanks Anne! It’s a work in progress but I’m happy so far!
Gorgeous! I love your mix of patterns! 🙂
Thank you!
Wow amazing!!!
Thank you!
Every time I even look at plant my husband reminds me off my black thumb! Young House Love did a post a few weeks back about a great artificial fiddle fig target is selling in a few sizes? That corner would look awesome with something a little taller with some bright leaves.
Ooo… and totally in love with the rug layering you have going on, perfect!
