Hi, friends! Angela here! I’m so geeked to be here to chat fashion and all about how to spice up your wardrobe to help make the transition between Winter and Spring not quite so MEH. Grab a cup of your favorite bevy and let’s get started!
I don’t know about you, but when February comes and goes and March rolls in, I am OVER WINTER. I’m ready to throw all the coats, scarves, hats, gloves, boots, down a dark hole, and I never ever want to lay eyes on them again…well at least not until next year. But where I live, this season of “not totally Winter but not really Spring” lasts for a few months and can really seem to drag on and on and on and on (and then on some more….seriously). And the worst is when you’re all excited because “it’s warm” and so you put on your “spring attire” only to realize that 50 degrees is only warm for about 5 minutes in your t-shirt + capris + perfectly worn in Birks. Not that I know from experience or anything. {Side eye.}
So how do you dress for the in-between, always fluctuating, impossible to predict temperatures that exist in the already but not yet season of what can only be referred to as Winspring?
I’ve put together a few things that I use to boost my wardrobe to help fight off the Winter blues, lighten the load a bit (no more fluffy coats!) and keep me feeling Spring ready. Watch out Winspring. You can’t keep us down!
sunglasses | jeans | necklace | booties | top | bracelet turquoise | bracelet | earrings | jacket | purse
To start, I think everybody needs a leather jacket. I mean, amiright?! They’re warm but not bulky and with all the colors and styles they come in, there’s a perfect fit for every body and every budget. I just picked up this genuine leather black one on clearance at Nordstrom Rack for $85! Pictured below I’m wearing it unzipped which is fun and care-free but it’s also super edgy and chic worn zipped, showing off a rad asymmetrical zipper line. Because life’s too short to be symmetrical all the time. :0)
So after you have picked up your favorite jacket, let’s talk about those feet. Say good-bye to those big, bulky snow boots. Stuff them away for another day (hopefully many, MANY, months from now) and find yourself some booties! I grabbed these Lucky Brand Perforated Booties at Macy’s. I didn’t quite time it right to hit the sale but the splurge was worth it. These puppies were $139 and they’re so fun (and comfy!) to wear all.the.time. They’re perfect for when the temps are too warm for boots + socks and too cool for sandals. I die.
The shoes and jacket are must-haves IMO but after investing in those, I think the most cost-effective way to boost your style is via accessories. As with most anything, accessorizing can be as pricey or as inexpensive as you want. The most important thing to remember though is to have fun with them! Let your accessories reveal some intel on what makes you you!
As you begin brainstorming your accessory options, the first accessory I’d recommend looking for is a good pair of sunglasses because even though it doesn’t seem like it, the sun IS gonna come back so we need to be ready! Historically I’m a $10/pair kinda girl but after realizing that all my sunglasses are crooked, bent, and well, uncomfortable, I decided to up my expectations a bit. I wanted some quality sunglasses without having to pay designer prices so my accessory-loving 3 year old daughter and I went to Nordstrom Rack. We tried on every single pair of sunglasses they had I think and had a blast! I ended up going with this black + white Michael Kors pair…and got them for less than $50! And b + w is so neutral, I think it works with most anything.
I’d also recommend finding a bag or purse that you love. Obvy, black and white is my go-to right now. It’s pretty neutral and feels like a good in-between-seasons color palette. The one pictured in my mood board above is priced way over my budget but I think it gives a good idea of the black + white vibe.
Next: Necklaces!! Now that we don’t have to be bundled up to our chins to fight the freezing temps, our collar bones and neck lines can finally come out to play! Hooray! Neck candy comes in many forms: chokers, long necklaces, layered necklaces…or all of the above! I’ve been wearing an UO reversible leather choker that I got for my birthday with absolutely everything. It’s brown on one side and -get ready- GOLD on the other! Super FUN. And adds just the right touch for any day and any outfit. I couldn’t find the same choker online but here’s something equally as fun! The layered necklace pictured below is also a staple accessory in my current wardrobe. I picked her up at Target a couple months ago. I’m diggin’ the half moon vibes lately. Here’s something similar and at $15 it’s definitely a steal!
