Hey guys!!! Welcome to Week 6 of the One Room Challenge – aka WE MADE IT! HUGE thanks to Linda from Calling it Home and media partner House Beautiful for the opportunity to be a part of this fun challenge!
I have so many mixed emotions writing this post : Enormous gratitude for my husband who worked on this space for countless hours and sleepless nights. He single handily cut no less than 2000 pieces of tile (no joke), poured about 2000 pounds of concrete, and sacrificed his sanity all in the name of love for me and this blog. Appreciation for my sponsors who were so amazing to work with and donated materials and their time answering countless emails from me. Thankfulness for my readers and fellow blog friends for their words of support and encouragement in the crazy stressful world known as the One Room Challenge. Relief that it’s over and we can go back to life as we know it with a fully functioning and gorgeous new space and put future renovations on hold for a bit (but no worries, my husband is already talking about what space to do for the fall ORC – he’s a nut).
With that said – let’s get to the fun stuff!!
Here’s the laundry list of the things we accomplished in this challenge-
- Paint and installed cabinet baseboard and trim
- Installed new appliances
- Add wall sconces
- Put up open shelves
- Stenciled the floor
- Installed and DIY’d new concrete countertops
- Installed new sink and faucet
- Touch up paint
- Installed backsplash
- Painted cabinets
- Added new window treatment and artwork
Annnnd I may or may not have a kitchen table yet – oops!
It sure doesn’t look like a lot in a bullet point but HOLY MAMA that was a lot of work! Now let’s just get to the pretty pictures in good ‘ol before/after style just like those home renovation reveal shows:
I mean WOW right?!?! The power of paint my friends (and a lot of hard work).
Can we just talk about the gorgeous details in this space though –
Like the cabinet hardware from D. Lawless – It’s sleek, gold, and really pops against those dark cabinets.
And they are on sale peeps so hurry and go snag some for a quick update!
The concrete countertops certainly gave us a run for our money but they add great contrast to the space and help it to feel more balanced with all the marble tile. If you’re a hardcore DIY-er and want to tackle your own concrete countertops – I can’t recommend Concrete Countertop Solutions enough! The product was excellent and they were readily available to answer any of our questions – and boy we did we have a bunch.
We can’t NOT talk about the elephant in the room – that AMAZING Calcatta marble herringbone tile from The Builder Depot. ooohhhmmmmyyyggoooosh you guys. I wish I could have you all over to pet it – it’s such a showstopper in this space. I instantly felt fancier once it was on the wall.
It’s smooth and sleek and the flecks of gold pieces create so much warmth. And you all know I love me some gold.
I’m so glad we decided to remove the cabinet and add the open shelves so that we could see even more of the tile. Bringing it to the ceiling around the window has been one of my favorite part’s – it’s like art on the wall it’s so gorgeous.
Another big element is the floor! We knew we lacked the time to replace the floors during this challenge – and we couldn’t leave the yucky linoleum as is – so I did what any DIYer would do and painted it! I will have a full tutorial on that soon but thanks to Cutting Edge Stencil’s the floor turned out amazing using their Stephanie Lace All Over Stencil.
How fun is that?! They are holding up extremely well – I can’t wait to share the tutorial with you!
Now for some fun detail pics because they are my favorite.
We have COME SO FAR and it’s been such a learning experience! Thanks for supporting me and this blog and I hope you feel inspired to restyle your own space!
Thanks again to my amazing sponsors!!

The tile is beautiful, Colette! It’s a huge project, and I’m sure a bummer to not have it 100% done — but you should feel so accomplished with doing all this yourself!! And 6 weeks is fast!
