HI!! It’s WE ARE HALFWAY week!! Ahhh!!!!!!
This week always terrifies and excites me at the same time – we are so close and yet so far from our reveal! Add the fact that we are working on someone else’s home and this feeling of terror is multiplied! In our home we can stay up until the wee hours making sure everything gets done but doing the nursery has forced us to be very intentional with our time.
So let’s dive right in!
Here’s where we left off on our to-do list:
remove the carpetreplace the floorinstall and widen new windowremove the old trim- replace with new craftsman style trim
- install a wood feature wall
- replace lighting
- install craftsman wood trim to closet doors
- paint
- install custom shelving
- re-paint and re-purpose dresser
- install allllll the special surprises that make this room a girl or boy nursery!
Now that the floor is installed it’s time to install all that trim!!!
Like I mentioned before – Molly’s home is more craftsman style. There are no mitered corners for door trim or window trim which made my husband VERY happy. After hours of deliberation in the aisles of Lowe’s we went with 1×4 pine trim boards for the baseboard and 1×3 pine trim boards for the window and feature wall.
Mike started with measuring/cutting/and installing the baseboards.
Once all the baseboards were nailed in he started on the window and door trim – leaving the feature wall for last.
See – no mitered corners! This made for a much faster process!
Once all that trim was up it was time for the feature wall. In typical Mr. Wright fashion he somehow creates a sketch in a matter of minutes and takes what’s in my brain and translates it to real life. Genius.
So this feature wall is complicated by a door way that connects the master bedroom to the nursery (which is great for practical purposes) but not for design!
So here’s a reminder of that wall and doorway.
We determined how big our grid was (we wanted big squares) and Mike worked on the dimensions.
Pretty fancy right? Who needs CAD!
Once we had our plan Mike started with the horizontal pieces of the grid. We didn’t use any adhesive on the boards – just simply nailed in. After the horizontals were done he added the vertical boards.
I mean – AMAZING!! What a difference wood trim can make!
When all the wood trim had been installed Alex and I caulked every seam (which is also my favorite thing to do – its instantly gratifying). Alex and Molly also covered every nail hole.
In total – we Mike installed almost 200 feet of wood trim!!
Now we have some more items to cross off the list which is very satisfying.

For next week we’ll have the walls painted (Eeek!) and the wood trim for the closet doors. I’m also working on repainting the dresser (but the color is a secret so no sneak peaks).
Don’t forget to check out the other guest participants who are creating some amazing spaces this fall as well. Thanks as always to Linda from Calling it Home for sponsoring the challenge!
I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without the support of you and my sponsors for this challenge! So HUGE thank you to them! I’ve gotten some sneak peaks from my sponsors of the finished products and I CAN’T WAIT to share them!

You’re right about having to be intentional with time since it’s not at your own home. It makes your challenge even more difficult but you’ve got this! That’s a lot of trim installed. I can’t wait to see everything all painted. Good luck! Can’t believe there’s only 3 weeks left!
I know! Week 3 always terrifies me LOL!!!
