Well, here in West Michigan we have quite the white winter! Snow has been falling for about a week now which is a nice excuse to stay snuggled up on my couch with a hot cup of coffee. But, who am I kidding? Do I really need an excuse to do that? No, no I do not.
If it weren’t for the kids I don’t know that I would decorate for Christmas aside from a tree and the mantle. I don’t like having bins and bins of holiday decor stored nor do I enjoy spending money on holiday decor that will be out for less than 30 days – what a scrooge I sound like! I do like building memories with my kids and having a warm and inviting home for them that feels festive and cozy so onward I go with holiday decor.
Here’s a peak at what Christmas looks like in our home this year – nothing too fancy or extravagent but definitely a sprinkling of Christmas spirit.
I didn’t purchase any new holiday decor this year aside from some battery operated fairy lights – but I did take advantage of some black Friday sales and got some new curtains in our living and a new Anthropology plate for my plate wall!
Thanks to some pretty fierce allergies my son has we aren’t able to get a real tree so faux is where its at. Our in-laws handed down a pre-lit tree to us and it does the job! Almost all of our ornaments have some special significance or meaning with a few fillers thrown in there. Of course, my kids handmade ornaments through the years are my favorite. We don’t have fancy ribbon or a color-themed tree and that’s okay. I do have my sights set on a pink or white christmas tree though for next year to put in our formal living because that’s just plain fancy.
For the mantle I placed some battery operated fairy lights and some colorful ornaments and called it good. It’s simple but festive! I do want to keep my eye out for some faux garland for next year but I have a hard time finding something I really like!
I added a cozy cable knit throw to my favorite little corner of the room to make it feel wintery. I’m loving the combo of the graphic print curtains (thank you West Elm sale) and all the texture and florals. If you wanna change the look and feel of your space without a ton of money change out your curtains! These 96″ curtains (a pair no less) were less than $100 and they pack a big punch!
I just added in some holiday details throughout the rest of our main level but nothing too crazy! Oh, and that fireplace will be getting a makeover with our leftover kitchen tile soon!
A couple of mercury glass trees sit in front of my new Anthro plate that I’m in LOVE with. Every year around this time I snag a new plate on clearance at Anthropology and this year was no exception. I had my eye on that black and gold floral plate and the price was right!
So, IKEA’s faux eucalyptus stems are fantastic – if you live near one you should definitely pick some up!
Right there in that corner is where I want my pink or white tree next year – if you have any suggestions for a decent priced one I’m all ears! So that kind of wraps up our little holiday home tour!
I hope you have a magical holiday filled with people you love – that’s what it’s all about my friends.

I love your new curtains! Your style is awesome!
Thank you Mary!!!
