Well I’m pretty much breaking all the blogging rules. I don’t post consistently, I don’t have ads on my site, and I don’t do a lot of sponsored posts (not that I won’t – I see you Anthropologie – lets make a DEAL). But, when you throw out all the rules your hobby and passion can be just what it was meant to be – FUN. So you’ll have to forgive my unconventional blogging schedule. I decorate, renovate, post, and photograph our home when I can and try to keep things low stress about it! Now on to the fun!
Our family room was the first room we tackled in our house when we moved here almost 4 years ago (CRAZY). Even in that short time it’s seen many versions but what’s remained is our wall color {sherwin williams silver strand} and oversized grey sectional.

This has been one of the most used spaces in our house and because we spend so much time in it it has to check a lot of boxes! It has to be comfortable, functional, tidy, and have a bit of Colette style. Okay maybe a lot of that.

Isn’t is amazing what a little paint can do?! To see more of the space then you can head here. It’s bright and cheery and full of life! But as people grow and change so do rooms in our home and I’ve been tweaking and moving and shifting the space ever since. It’s current state is much more eclectic and dramatic – much like yours truly.

I painted the ceramic fireplace on a whim one day – no special paint or plan – just a can of black paint {sherwin williams caviar} and a paint brush. I have to say it’s held up really well and I love the drama it provided.

So many things here are vintage and/or thrifted. The lamps I found on FB marketplace and came with much taller shades I swapped for these guys. The glorious gold mirror is probably the catalyst for the shift in this room and it came from the walls of my grandparents house – handed down to my mom – handed down to me. I LOVE IT.

I always envisioned a pretty extensive gallery wall here and slowly but surely my vision is taking shape. There are still some spaces left on the wall to fill – and in time I will – but I’m letting it evolve. All the pieces on this wall mean something to me and bring me great joy. From photos of my trips to London, my sons art project, and personal snapshots I love have a little bit of everything up there. For me, this is what creating a home is about.

This butterfly print is especially meaningful to me. My mom and I took a trip to London last fall and I found it at a thrift store in Barnes, UK. It’s made of pressed butterfly wings and it just makes my heart feel good to look at it.
You may also recognize many of the prints if you follow me on Instagram! I just opened The Lipstick Lens Print Shop where I sell many of the prints on this wall! I’d be honored if you checked it out!

Another fun find in here is the addition of these pink wingback chairs! I found them years ago when I was thrifting in Grand Rapids and didn’t quite know where to put them so I passed on them at the time. I messaged my friend about them who bought them – never ended up using them – and then I bought them from her! SO I’d say it was fate and they were meant to be here. I love the color and extra seating they provide!

Doesn’t everyone have a golden peacock in their living room? Asking for a friend…

While I don’t LOVE the idea of a tv above the fireplace this is just the reality of our home. It’s all about give and take right?

I know my home isn’t everyone’s style and that’s okay! Some may hate the gallery wall – or the pink chairs – or heck everything about it. But I love looking around seeing all the things that fill my heart with joy. The key to keep things from looking cluttered is having similar tones and color throughout and neutral pieces to make everything grounded.

Thanks for hanging out and taking a peek inside our home! It certainly doesn’t look this neat and tidy every day…but we try to keep it picked up! When I look back at these photo’s I often ask myself what my ‘style’ it and I can honestly say that I have no idea. So if you have an idea of what you’d call it I’d love to hear haha.
xo,
Colette
